History - KS3
In History we aim to inspire students’ curiosity to know more about the past, through developing students’ knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history.
We aim for all students in our care to be able to think critically, weigh up evidence, sift through arguments and develop perspective and judgement. Students will also understand historical concepts such as change and continuity, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, using them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends and create their own structured accounts.
Throughout Key Stage 3 students follow a curriculum which studies a broad range of topics such as Medieval Britain, Slavery and Civil Rights, Industrial Revolution, Warfare Through Time, World War One and World War Two. Through studying a rigorous and broad curriculum at Key Stage 3 students will hopefully start to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change and the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their identity and the challenges of their time. In addition, students will also develop their source analysis skills, the ability to evaluate historical interpretations, to communicate effectively and make reasoned and informed conclusions to a series of historical enquiries.
