Attendance
At Salesian, our mission is to provide an outstanding Catholic education, and regular attendance is essential—not just for academic success, but also for building social connections and personal growth. Our school’s target is that all children have an attendance above 96%.
Below is a reminder of what to do should you need to report your child absent from school.
Reporting Absences
The email address to report any absence is attendance@salesian.surrey.sch.uk (Years 12–13: Email collegeattendance@salesian.surrey.sch.uk)
Please report absences by 9:00am, providing details of the illness.
Please encourage your child to come to school, even if they are feeling under the weather. If they become unwell during the day, then our Student Servies team will assess them and call you if necessary. You can find helpful NHS advice on whether your child should stay home here.
Medical
We strongly encourage non-essential medical or dental appointments to be scheduled outside school hours or during holidays. If appointments during school hours is unavoidable, email attendance@salesian.surrey.sch.uk in advance with appointment confirmation (e.g. screenshot or letter) and collection and return times
Planned Absences
Holidays during term time are not authorised and may incur a penalty notice.
If you need to request a planned absence, for example work experience or sporting activity, please email your child’s Head of Year or attendance@ and request a leave of absence form. Please give at least 3 weeks' notice.
Penalty Notices
If your child has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence within a rolling 10 school–week period, you may be fined.
(£160 per parent per child, if paid within 28 days, reduced to £80, if paid within 21 days, unpaid notices may lead to a Magistrates’ Court summons).
