History - KS4
In History we aim to inspire students’ curiosity to know more about the past, through developing students’ knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history.
We aim for all students in our care to be able to think critically, weigh up evidence, sift through arguments and develop perspective and judgement. Students will also understand historical concepts such as change and continuity, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, using them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends and create their own structured accounts.
In Key Stage 4 students will study a wide range of history, enabling them to make connections within and across different periods of time. Students will follow the Edexcel GSCE History specification, with modules covering the following topics: Henry VIII and his Ministers 1509-40, Medicine in Britain c.1250-present and The British Sector of the Western Front, Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918-39 and The American West 1835-1895.
In addition, students will develop a range of skills such as discussing and debating key issues and events, researching and exploring key individuals, analysing sources and interpretations and forming substantiated judgements.
