Modern Foreign Languages - KS3
We aspire to expose our pupils to a broad and ambitious Modern Languages curriculum, which is rich in skills and knowledge, develops self-efficacy, kindles curiosity and promotes diversity and tolerance of other cultures.
Students have the opportunity to study one language, either French or Spanish, from Years 7 -11 and will gain a GCSE qualification in this core subject. We encourage students to use language skills, receptively and productively, for communication in the real world, for practical purposes, interests and beyond and to express and justify opinions. We build on their confidence and autonomy to access new and unfamiliar language through the explicit teaching of phonics ,vocabulary and grammar. This will allow them to use language accurately and creatively. Studies will be enhanced through gaining an appreciation of cultural diversity and the use of authentic material from other Spanish and French speaking countries. The curriculum is further enriched through a variety of in-school activities, such as participation in the European Languages Day celebrations, foreign language theatre experiences, careers and wellbeing focused opportunities . Trips abroad to France and Spain are always central to student experience.
