Modern Foreign Languages - KS5

We aspire to expose our pupils to a broad and ambitious Modern Languages curriculum, which is rich in skills and knowledge, develops self-efficacy, kindles curiosity and promotes diversity and tolerance of other cultures.

Throughout KS5 students of French and Spanish study the Edexcel syllabus and work towards becoming a fluent and spontaneous speaker of the foreign language. Students studying Spanish or French A-level will study a range of topics focusing on the evolution of society, multiculturalism, artistic culture and aspects of political life in the countries where the language is spoken. We undertake an in-depth study of one literary text and one film. Studying an A-level language promotes greater fluency, grammatical accuracy and confidence in all forms of language which aims to promote greater independence. We aim to develop knowledge through reading and listening to authentic source materials and learning how to extract information, initiate conversations and respond to questions both orally and in writing. We set out to instill a passion for foreign language opportunities and to provide our students with an invaluable tool for their future, making them highly competitive and employable.
