History - KS5

Choose a subject

In History we aim to inspire students’ curiosity to know more about the past, through developing students’ knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history.

We aim for all students in our care to be able to think critically, weigh up evidence, sift through arguments and develop perspective and judgement. Students will also understand historical concepts such as change and continuity, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, using them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends and create their own structured accounts.

In Key Stage 5 we aim to create the very best historians, challenging students to think, act and speak like a historian, to research thoroughly, to weigh up evidence, evaluate interpretations and develop arguments. Students will follow the Edexcel GCE History specification, studying the following topics: The Rise and Fall of Fascism in Italy c.1911-46, Germany and West Germany 1918-89 and Disorder and Rebellion the Tudors 1485-1603. In addition, students will also develop to become better independent and reflective learners through the research, planning and writing of their Historical Enquiry coursework assignment.
