Choose a subject

The Salesian music programme features a curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum, encompassing performance, composition, and appraisal, with a variety of performance opportunities.

Beyond the classroom, the school provides co-curricular activities such as choirs, ensembles, and peripatetic lessons, as well as trips and workshops to broaden musical experiences. Our music development plan is available below:

Over the course of years 7-9, students incrementally develop their proficiency on a range of instruments and styles. Students will particularly focus on learning how to play the keyboard from staff notation with two hands; learning to play chords on the ukulele while singing; performing as part of a choir and a band; and learning how to compose their own music using both Soundtrap and Musescore technology. The KS3 course prepares students to take GCSE music while also giving them a wealth of performance opportunities to develop confidence, musical skill, and a life-long love of music.
