Year 12 Theatre Trip - 1984

On Monday 4th July, Miss Fitzpatrick and Mr. Newman took 17 Year 12 English Literature students to see a stage production of the novel 1984 at The London Playhouse Theatre; they also, by complete coincidence, saw Simon Armitage (whose collection The Not Dead is currently being studied by the same students in preparation for their coursework) on their way there!

The students have been studying the dystopian novel 1984 by George Orwell as part of their AS course this year and will use it as the basis of a genre study in Year 13.

The production provided a vivid interpretation of Orwell's text and, although some felt it was pretty graphic in places, all students commented on how much they learnt from the experience; seeing this production gives them the opportunity mention and gain credit for it as an alternative interpretation in their exam answers.

We would like to commend the students on their commitment to the course and their excellent conduct on the night.
