On Wednesday July 15th, Ms B Rowland was invited by the Chaplain, Fr. Marco Villani SDB, to visit Salesian School in order to lead an assembly on Fairtrade.
The Year 10 pupils listened attentively as Ms. Rowland, who plays an integral role in the Fairtrade Foundation, outlined how our sense of justice and fair play can be put into practice by supporting the aims of Fairtrade.
The Head of Year 10, Mr. M Goulborn. encouraged pupils to contact the Chaplain if they felt that they could make a difference to the lives of others by a more active role in Fairtrade activities.
As a Catholic school, the Mass (or Eucharist) is at the heart of all that we do. The Chaplain at Salesian School Chertsey, Fr. Marco Villani SDB, has now switched to Fairtrade Altar Wine for Holy Communion, using Poterion Fairtrade Altar Wine from South Africa.
Furthermore, the school is in the process of switching to 100% pure natural beeswax Fairtrade Candles from Vietnam for our two chapels. This is just one way in which Chaplaincy at Salesian School Chertsey is promoting Fairtrade which is especially important as the school is in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.
And this commitment has now been recognised: Salesian School has now moved from 'Fairaware' to 'Fairactive' status.
