The RE Department were delighted to be able to work with RHS Wisley to provide a workshop on 'The Environment' as part of the Year 11 GCSE RE course. We were blessed with fine weather as well as a comfortable teaching space at Wisley.
Pupils studied different kinds of plants and growing environments, using their phones to collect evidence, and then looked to see whether humans were destroying their habitats and what reasons they might have for doing so. We looked to see what we could do to reverse the damage already done to the environment and what the government and Roman Catholic Church were doing to encourage care for the world.
We looked into the two Creation stories in Genesis to see what our responsibilities as human beings are and then noted the teachings of both St Francis of Assisi and Pope Francis.
The day was extremely informative and enjoyable. Many thanks to the staff at RHS Wisley for accommodating us and their warm welcome.
