Mr Kibble's Christmas message

Christmas_card_180.jpgDear Parents & Friends of Salesian

Another term has flown by at Salesian School; it's hard to believe that Christmas is upon us again already. Given all that has happened over the last 16 weeks it's hardly surprising that time has passed so quickly!

The term started on a real high with news of record-breaking academic results both at GCSE and A Level. This success is testament to great teaching, diligent study and highly supportive parenting; everyone involved can afford to be thoroughly proud of all that the students achieved. As we always say, achieving academic success is only part of what we are trying to do but we are delighted that the school continues to excel on this front.

As always at the end of the Autumn term we have been reflecting on the inspirational themes of Advent and have been blessed with opportunities to engage in a range of liturgical events. This culminated this week in the magnificent Carol Concert at Christ the Prince of Peace in Weybridge, where it was a privilege to be joined by so many members of the wider school community. Thank you to all those who supported this fantastic event.

At the end of last term I was able to suggest that the campaign to increase the number of Catholic secondary school places in our deanery looked like it may be moving forward. I am delighted to say that a full feasibility study by Surrey County Council is now underway and we are hopeful this will result in building work commencing early next year. If all goes to plan we will be able to offer an additional 50 places each year from 2017. Thank you to all those who supported the campaign.

We are delighted not to be losing any of our excellent teaching staff at the end of this term. We will however be without Mrs Rider and Mrs Garbett for a few months as they will both be taking maternity leave; we look forward to some exciting news on this front in the coming weeks. And congratulations to Mrs Jones, Mrs Morgan and Mrs Baumgart who have all brought beautiful babies into the world since I last wrote.

Ensuring that our school continues to be staffed with the very best teachers is one of the most challenging parts of the job. We are delighted with the initial success of our recently accredited Centre for Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and are currently in the process of recruiting for next September. If you, or anyone you know, are interested in embarking on or returning to a career in teaching then please visit the Teach South East website: www.teachsoutheast.co.uk.

Please do take a moment to enjoy our Autumn News Digest which gives us the opportunity to share and reflect on some of what has been going on. Remember that you can always keep up to date with the latest news and events at: www.salesian.surrey.sch.uk/news/

Thank you for all you have done to support the school this term. On behalf of everyone here, please accept our best wishes for a happy, holy and peaceful Christmas and we look forward to a great 2016!

Yours faithfully,
James Kibble
Headteacher
