Year 11 students got a whole new perspective on the value of learning and speaking another language thanks to a talk from British Airways. Deborah Workman, a Languages Executive at BA, ran an interactive workshop of activities, specific to the languages which cabin crew use in their everyday dealings with the public. The languages presentation increased students’ understanding of how languages are used in the workplace generally. Many students were inspired to find out more about the Italian, Spanish and French A level course offered at our Sixth form open evening held later on that day. For one or two it opened up new ideas about globetrotting careers (right)!
One of the students present, Daniel Partridge, said: "The BA talk opened up to us how important a second language can be in your life. It allows new pathways for work, and you are able to communicate with people who you wouldn't be able to otherwise. The talk was enjoyable, and helped everyone understand how having a second language can help us throughout our lives."
