Every year, the music department organises a world music workshop with a visiting company who come in to give students the opportunity to play instruments they have never seen before. In previous years, we have run a Caribbean steel pans workshop and a Japanese Taiko drumming workshop, and this year we have had our first ever Indian Dhol drumming lesson.
Students from all year groups took part in a fantastic, action packed session and were amazed at how quickly they could grasp the basics! Many thanks to Jim, from World Music Workshops, who led our sessions, and Miss Jenkins for organising the day.
We run our own African Drumming group on Tuesday lunchtimes for students who enjoyed the opportunity to try drumming from a different culture – all are welcome.
