In a sign of growing collaboration between schools on Fairtrade, the School Chaplain from Salesian School Chertsey, Fr. M Villani SDB took three members of the Salesian School Chertsey Fairtrade committee to St. Alban's Catholic Primary School East Molesey to lead a whole school assembly on the topic of Fairtrade. The invitation by the Headteacher of St. Alban's Primary School, Mr M. Brannigan, was gratefully received.
Fr. Villani, two Year 9 pupils and a Year 7 pupil presented an assembly to pupils ranging from Year Reception to Year 6. After a brief introduction to the theme of Fairtrade, a powerpoint was shown, lead by the two pupils in Year 9, Niamh Forbes and Gabriella Alexandru. A short role play was written by Csanád Kiss in Year 7, who invited Year 6 pupils from St. Alban's to act out a shopkeeper's scenario, in which a shopper makes a conscious decision to make the switch to Fairtrade products in order to ensure that farmers, growers and producers receive a fair price for their work. The Deputy Headteacher of St. Alban's Primary school, Ms J Bishop, exhorted all pupils to carry forward this message about Fairtrade to family and friends.
