On Wednesday March 11th, six pupils from Years 7 to 9 competed for first place in the Fairtrade Bake-Off Final. Five girls and one boy were given the same task viz. to create a Victoria sponge using at least three Fairtrade ingredients.
Contestants' cakes were to be judged on texture, taste and presentation, with particular regard to the latter as each cake had to advertise Fairtrade. Mrs C Barrett oversaw the pupils' work, whilst Mr G Thomas took photographs. A team of staff members volunteered to assist in the judging process. Special guest Mrs. F Axten from Addlestone Fairtrade Group awarded the winner with the Salesian School Chertsey Fairtrade Shield. Each contestant was congratulated for their participation and received a Fairtrade Easter Egg in recognition of their efforts.
