On March 11th 2016, Salesian School Chertsey was proud to host three special visitors representing the Fairtrade Foundation. Kate Jones, Becca Rowland and Julio Cantillo Mercado, a banana plantation owner from Colombia, addressed a specially convened Year 9 assembly.
Speaking in Spanish, with Kate Jones translating, Julio gave an informative audio-visual talk about how the principles of Fairtrade were put into practice. The Fairtrade Premium was explained to the pupils, and evidence was given as to how the Fairtrade Premium helps to improve the lives of many by allowing them to invest in their business whilst gaining access to markets, health care and education.
Salesian School Chertsey was delighted to present the Fairtrade Foundation with a cheque for £200 raised by the two Fairtrade Bake Sales at the Guildford and Highfield Road sites.
