Over October half term 30 students from Year 10 participated in an Erasmus+ Exchange with St. John Bosco Gymnasium in Bardejov, Slovakia. Students participated in a wide range of activities exploring the stalactites and stalagmites of Jasovska Cave, to a tour round Kosice, the largest city in eastern Slovakia. A day was spent in our host's school where students participated in joint learning activities covering History, RE and Geography. Fortunately, the St. John Bosco Gymnasium is a bilingual school where many of the lessons are taught in English.
Assistant Headteacher Mr Keeling said, "This is the second year we have taken a group of students to Bardejov. It is an amazing opportunity for our students to learn about a part of the world they have little knowledge of. It also helps our students to understand they are part of a wider Salesian family that stretches across the world. Whilst there may be some differences in our cultures, we have a shared Catholic faith and take inspiration from St. John Bosco. We are excited at the prospect of our partnership continuing and the opportunities this offers for future students."
The aims of the Exchange are to develop partnerships with other schools and share good practice. Salesian School has collaborated with the St. John Bosco Gymnasium with curriculum plans, learning and teaching strategies, lesson observations and seminars. We are looking forward to a reunion with our Slovakian friends when they come to visit in Summer 2018.
