Each year the RE department try to run a short pilgrimage for some of our pupils. This year, for the first time, we were able to visit the shrine of Our Lady at Fatima. In addition, we visited the birthplace of St Anthony in Lisbon where we prayed before his relic as the late Pope John Paul II had done. The trip to Cristo Rei (Christ the King) was quite spectacular – it is very reassuring to have an image of Christ looking over a capital city.
We are delighted to announce that on top of the company successes this year for Salesian School, Co-Managing Director of Gradient - Courtney Maloney - was awarded the Young Enterprise Founder's Award for Personal Progress.
At the end of April, the Gifted and Talented Year 7 pupils visited The Shard in London. It was quite an experience as you will see from the photographs. The group had put together a short Nativity Play for the Year 7s and 8s at the end of the Autumn Term and this trip was a reward for their creativity and hard work.
During the Easter holidays, 10 students and three teachers decided to visit Stockholm in the hope of recreating an ABBA experience! For three days, we visited the places where ABBA performed, as well as some of Stockholm’s famous landmarks. A large proportion of our time was spent posing for photos whilst Fr Andrew (and the ‘artistic directors’, Harry and Calvin) tried to get us to look like ABBA!
Across Lent, the students of 924 carried out a 'Give up and Give Away Lenten appeal'. Through giving up things like chocolate and sweets, the tutor-group managed to raise a fantastic £50. This money funded a special Easter Sunday breakfast in the Don Bosco Ashalayam homes for boys in India.
A very successful night was organised by Tina Wright and Alisa Wickens to raise money for the children of Don Bosco Ashalayam. It gave the students who went out to India last year an opportunity to present their experiences to nearly 200 people.
On 13th February, members of the year 12 Peace and Justice League – Daisy Stoner; Alex Hogan; Sean Holder; Ruari O’Connor and I – went on a trip to the Houses of Parliament with Father Marco, for a CAFOD reception.
