In March the Salesian Ski Club departed for Austria to ski the Glacier at Kaprun. In a break from tradition the group travelled at Easter expecting sunny, spring like skiing at high altitude. Despite the time of year we were treated to incredible conditions, after an initial sunny day or two a storm came in and the area was hit with over a meter of snow falling in 72 hours. After 2 days of skiing knee to thigh deep powder in heavy falling snow, the students were treated to a brilliant blue bird powder day to round the week off. In 20 years of skiing the alps it was some of the best conditions I have seen and all made the most of four unbelievable days.
On the social side of things everyone was in great spirits and the camaraderie in the group was fantastic. We were luckily enough to stay in a beautiful hotel with rustic, traditional décor and friendly staff. The hotel came complete with a spa, perfect for treating aching muscles after long days skiing powder. Highlights of the week socially included the new Tauern Spa in Kaprun, featuring heating outdoor pools in the foothills of the Kitzsteinhorn mountain range, and the Karaoke session on the last night. Thank you to everyone who made the trip so special.
